Lifestyle benefits

Copper IUD as emergency contraception

Copper IUDs, when inserted within 120 hours/five days following unprotected sex, are known to be the most effective form of emergency contraception available. And afterward, you get to enjoy years of protection from an unplanned pregnancy.

It’s safe for all female bodies.

Including adolescent girls and women over the age of 40. Most experts agree that if you are healthy and have a uterus, you are probably a good candidate for the IUD and that this is true even if you are young, have never been pregnant or had children, have just had an abortion or a miscarriage (as long as you are not under treatment for an infection), have had an ectopic pregnancy, have previously had pelvic inflammatory disease, have HIV with mild or no symptoms (on/off antiretrovirals), or are anemic. It is also a great method for new moms (whether or not they are breastfeeding).

No hormonal side effects

Copper IUDs do not contain hormones and, therefore, your hormone levels will not be affected.

It’s discreet.

The non-hormonal IUD contraceptive is a T-shaped plastic and copper device that is put into your uterus (womb), and most people can’t tell it’s there. There is no packaging and nothing you need to do just before you have sex. In some rare cases, a partner might feel the IUD or its strings during penetrative sex, but the strings can easily be trimmed by a health-care provider.

It’s low effort.

Get it and forget it. If you do not want to worry about remembering your contraceptive method, the IUD just may be for you. It is inserted once and depending on the type, it can remain effective for up to 12 years.

It’s hands-free.

Since insertion is done in a health-care facility, there are no packages or prescriptions to pick up at the pharmacy. Therefore, there is nothing that could get lost or forgotten.

It does not interrupt the heat of the moment.

How long does it take to get pregnant after copper IUD removal

You should be able to get pregnant very quickly after you have the IUD removed. If you are not ready to get pregnant as soon as you have an IUD taken out, be sure to protect yourself with the same or a different contraceptive method.

How long does copper iud last?

It’s super long-lasting without much effort from the user.

What is the compatibility between tampons and Non-Hormonal(copper) IUDs?

A person with a Copper IUD can also use a tampon, so long as they do not pull on the IUD strings. It is however very rare to pull the IUD strings by mistake since the tampon strings are usually hanging outside, rather than inside a vagina. In case you feel your IUD strings near your tampon strings, you should immediately visit your health care provider because there is a chance that the IUD might have been expelled from the uterus.
