– It is dependent on a strong breastfeeding relationship between you and your baby. A smooth lactation experience does not come naturally to everyone. The inability to breastfeed as regularly as recommended will make the method less effective.
– LAM only works for up to six months. When your periods resume, or after six months of LAM, you have to switch to another method.
– Failure rates are high if you do not use this method correctly.
– It does not offer protection from sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV.
